about

Crest was one of the first ones we started working on for this project. It's also one of the oldest songs on here. It was inspired by Pat Whelan's s tune With This Bullet, and a Yo Zushi song (although I can't remember exactly which one; maybe Roisin The Beau / Bow).

I'd intended a mellower, jazzy take on the song, but Ross and I came up with a tougher feel which works well. For a while I thought we'd open the album with it, but SCB feels more appropriate.

lyrics

I became in a town on a river
Was neither a boy nor a man
Now I'm old, but I couldn't deliver
No, nothing was quite as I planned
Let me be borne and raised, up in a daze
The blackest of thoughts on the darkest of days
As we glide through the night it gets colder
We're further from debts that we've paid
I could carry the world on my shoulders
Decisions leave me afraid
Let me be borne and raised, up in a daze
The blackest of thoughts on the darkest of days
There are games we play, but music will save
Lift me up high on the crest of a wave
When I'm dead and down in my coffin
Or flying as ash on the wind
You can think of this song as an ending
Or maybe a chance to begin
Let me be borne and raised, up in a daze
The blackest of thoughts on the darkest of days
There are games we play, but music will save
Lift me up high on the crest of a wave
